Rise Drive school wants you to enjoy your lessons in a calm and relax manner and come away feeling that you have learnt something and made progress.
We teach in manual cars and follow the DVSA approved syllabus. Sophie started training in 2018 then became a trainee instructor in November 2019, passing the final exam in March 2020.
Riseey started training in November 2021 then became a trainee instructor in February 2022, passing the final exam in June 2022.
Sophie was trained by Red Driving School and is very grateful, but felt the time was right to go independent. The one thing that you learn with this job, is that you never stop learning yourself.
Learning to drive is a life skill no matter your background or age.
It’s totally normal to feel nervous and anxious before your first driving lesson and sometimes even on test day which is completely normal.
There are so many things to think about such as: How will I do? What will I learn today? And on your first lesson - what will my instructor be like?
The key thing is to believe in yourself and when you feel like you’re struggling or not able to do something just remember don’t give up you can do it.
We hope we can make you feel comfortable and at ease and the main thing is we care about you wanting to learn and succeed to achieve that life goal, so we have your best interests at heart.

We listen to your needs and any problems which may arise throughout the course of learning we live in a world where there is so much going on and everyday life has been intensified that the need to drive has become more than a need but a must. Learning to drive can take time so why not do it with someone who cares for your needs.
You will have a learning progress planner so you can see where you are in your learning right up till test day.
Our cars are Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris they are fully maintained, roadworthy also clean and tidy. The cars are fully insured with dual controls for instructor’s use.
We work flexible hours and put your needs first. This does mean we work evenings and weekends (Sundays at own discretion).
My name is Ian, but I hate that name so all my friends call me Riseey.
I am newer to this than Sophie as I was a Police officer for 19 years and 8 months. Don't let this scare you, I was one of the good ones.
Due to me Joining Sophie at Rise drive school, she likes to think she is my boss. To be honest she is the boss around the house, so I let her think the same with work.
I have Two children my son (Sophie's stepson) and our daughter. These, like Sophie are the most important things in my life.
I have grown up in the police and this has given me a lot of skills that I transfer into this. I worked within the training department within the police for 5 and a half years and I was an acting sergeant for just over 5 years. Both of these roles have helped developed my skills, as I needed to motivate, evaluate, correct, inspire, encourage, develop, teach, listen, the list goes on.
As you can image being in the police for so long my patience has been tested many times so I am a very patient person.
I, like Sophie am highly motivated to help people to learn to drive safely on the roads and will give my all to every client.

Payment
All lesson will be paid for at the commencement of each “pay as you go” lesson.
For block booking, full payment should be received before the first lesson of the block booking course.
Lesson Structure
Your lessons will be structured according to the approved DVSA syllabus (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) and will include an element of theoretical instruction or briefing, particularly during your early lessons and before the initial commencement of manoeuvres. Each lesson will be recorded on your individual progress App.
Joint understanding
I will at all times be polite, patient, understanding and courteous and will expect the same in return.
I will endeavor to arrive at the arranged time, but you should allow 10 minutes either way, in view of varying traffic conditions.
Should you need to cancel a lesson, 48 hours would be appreciated, or we will have to charge you as follows:
One hour lesson = £25
One and a half hour lesson = £35
Two hour lesson = £50
These are a percentage of the lesson prices, as I am sure you understand I am dedicated to getting you through your driving test, but this is my livelihood and less than 48 hours notice does not give me time to fill your time slot.

Your responsibilities
To book, revise and pass your theory test. I can assist with what material to use and offer advice on books and online Apps.
It’s your responsibility to inform me of any driving convictions, penalty points or medical conditions that may prevent you from learning to drive.
You are to inform me if you have to take any medication that will affect your driving, or if you have consumed drugs or alcohol.
You are to be responsible for bringing any glasses if you need them to drive and making sure you are wearing appropriate footwear.
You should ensure you have any personal belongings in your possession after each lesson, as I cannot accept responsibility for items you may leave in the car.
Please act in a mature and sensible way during periods of instruction. A motor vehicle can be dangerous and the safety of you, me, other road users and pedestrians is a high priority and anything that I feel endangers any of that may result in termination of your lesson.
Booking of your driving test
With regards to the booking of your driving test, this should only be booked following consultation with me. I reserve the right to refuse the use of my vehicle if, in my opinion, you do not meet the safety standards required by the DVSA, to enable you to attempt the practical driving test.
This condition is important as the safety of you and other road users is imperative.
When using my vehicle, you will need to sign documentation at the test centre to confirm my vehicle is insured and has a valid MOT certificate, so please ask me about documentary requirements when attending your practical test and the use of my dual controlled vehicle.
I accept no responsibility for any test cancelled by the DVSA but will advise you on the compensation procedure that you have to follow.
